Robert Battaglia, Co-Founder and CEO
Bob is a serial entrepreneur, having founded, built and sold five companies for profit. He left a corporate job in New York and, after traveling around the world for a year, embarked on his first entrepreneurial ventures in Hong Kong. He formed companies in the apparel manufacturing/retailing and publishing/international trading markets, both of which were sold to Hutchison Whampoa, Ltd., a local conglomerate. In the Philippines, he started and operated eight pizza restaurants in the metro Manila area. After selling that business, Bob returned to the U.S. where he bought a bankrupt, international camping equipment business, brought it back to life, and sold it. He again used his interest in food and cooking to launch a fresh pasta business, ultimately selling it to Kraft, Inc. One year later Bob started One Legal, then known as Fax & File.
Bob created the fax court filing business under the Fax & File name at a time when fax machines were still relatively new. Getting courts and lawyers to accept faxed documents was a challenge because of the widespread, yet incorrect, belief that an original signature was required on a document to make it legal. Today, One Legal is one of the leading electronic services companies in California with more than 45,000 satisfied users and over 15,000 customers.
Robert DeFilippis, President and COO
Robert has more than 20 years of experience in litigation support services including court filing, process serving and court research. In his current position, Robert is responsible for the day-to-day operations of One Legal, as well as transitioning the company to electronic court filing and service of process. Under his supervision, the company has dramatically increased its geographical service areas and the products offered. Through his participation in regional and national legal technology forums, he continues to develop alliances with other forward-thinking companies and court officers.
Jeffery H. Karotkin, Vice President of Strategic Development
As vice president of strategic development, Karotkin is responsible for providing the vision and strategy for a nationally branded solution that will enable One Legal to expand its services nationwide. Jeff brings more than 20 years of experience in the process serving industry to One Legal. He previously served as vice president and general manager of Personal Attorney Service, Inc. in Van Nuys, California. During his 9-year tenure, Karotkin led the company through its strongest growth period, ultimately positioning it for its recent sale.
Jeff has served on a wide range of boards and committees within the legal support industry and is a past president of the California Association of Legal Support Professionals. He has also written numerous articles and has spoken at a variety of seminars and workshops on process serving throughout California and the United States.
Bruce Friedman, Chief Technology Officer
Bruce Friedman has extensive IT experience in a broad range of industries including higher education, financial services and legal. He has built and supported IT infrastructure systems for an international AMLaw 25 legal firm. He has in-depth experience in negotiating contracts for outsourcing services, support contracts, storage and server assets, voice and data network services.
Bruce has worked with senior business managers in setting IT strategic direction to align with business objectives and functions. He is well versed in several technology disciplines having worked strategically and tactically in application development, quality assurance, testing, and infrastructure roles.
Bruce is responsible for delivering customer friendly and secure solutions that drive and support each new phase of the company's growth. He works closely with the management team to ensure the company continues to offer reliable and trusted services and products that support current and emerging legal standards. Bruce also works within the company across the departments to provide the optimal solutions for customers, contractors and employees alike.
Jerry O'Connell, Vice President of Finance
Jerry brings more than 30 years of experience in finance, strategic planning and financial operations to One Legal. Most recently, he served as chief financial officer and vice president of finance and administration for Aircraft Shopper Online, an Internet publisher of pre-owned aircraft in Corte Madera, California, where he directed all aspects of financial operations, corporate governance, human resources and internal systems development. Prior to that, he was vice president of finance and administration for International Training and Exchange, Inc. (Intrax) in San Francisco, California.
In his role as vice president of finance, Jerry will oversee One Legal's financial operations, administration and human resources. He provides a solution-oriented approach, combined with broad experience and a proven track record in guiding strategic financial planning.
Jim Wilmott, Vice President of Operations
Jim brought to One Legal a wealth of experience in a variety of disciplines in both service and manufacturing companies. Additionally, he was an information systems officer in the U.S Marine Corps, where he completed several hundred hours of courses in Total Quality Management.
He is responsible for continually analyzing and evaluating all departments of the company, and how they work together, in order to implement changes that will improve the way One Legal provides its services and interacts with its customers. He is also charged with evaluating opportunities for growth beyond our present service area.
Eric Winkler, Vice President of Marketing
Eric has more than 20 years of brand marketing experience in both consumer packaged goods and business-to-business technology services. He has held marketing executive positions at IBM, Broderbund Software and Vicinity Corporation, which is now part of Microsoft. He has experience in domestic and international marketing, including product management, brand development, partnership marketing and revenue generation.
Eric manages One Legal's marketing, product management, training, customer research and sales team. The department he manages is intended to quickly bring information to and from One Legal's customers so that customers' feedback can be incorporated into current and future One Legal services. His role on the management team is to ensure the company's product roadmap stays aligned with the changing needs of the legal industry.
